This work was completed in collaboration with scientists from the University of Otago and the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and supported by the Tonga Royal Navy.

The major eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano on January 15th was visible from space as seen in this imagery from NOAA geostationary satellites.
