Patrice Lumumba was handed over by Mobutu’s army to Belgian forces on 1 December 1959. Despite his innocence, his only guilt was creating laws to stop exploitation and allow the Congolese people and government to control their resources. He was imprisoned until 17 January 1960, when Belgium, the UK, and the US collaborated to kill him, cut his body into 34 pieces, and dissolve it in acid. They took his tooth as a trophy to Brussels; these later became the only part of his body buried on 30 June
