Lots of lovely people seem to be asking about testing hay using the refractometer method. I had a few people ask for a step by step reel which I posted on instagram. Thought I’d share here in case it helps someone. We’ve been testing every single bale using this method for over two years. My understanding is UK stays fairly low in regards to starch content. This method will only show the sugars present in each bale, using a Refractometer like those used for testing wine. Readily available at aro
